Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design of complex sensor systems (mechanical, thermal, structural, component issues) from design through validation and into start of production.
  • Develop fixtures/tooling/equipment for manual and semi-automated assembly and process development.
  • Work within or lead cross-functional teams to develop new sensor products.
  • Manage external suppliers and external services as part of the sensor product development process.
  • Material selection and specification development as applied to soldering, welding (laser, ultrasonic, etc.), ceramics, epoxy, thermoplastics, thermosets, fastening and hardware.
  • Conceptualize design layout, electronic package prototyping, fixture/tooling, development of mechanical attachment methods/tools for optimizing sensor performance.
  • Assembly of sensor assembly systems and use of engineering lab equipment to troubleshoot and validate system, subsystem and component functionality.
  • Writing documentation for designing, building, testing and reworking sensor systems.
  • Development of engineering lab validation systems for component and assembly level sensor systems.
  • Continuous improvement of existing sensor products
  • Domestic & International travel as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • 15+ years of mechanical design and analysis of electro-mechanical products
  • Mastery of CAD tools for 3D design, modeling and 2D drawing creation (SolidWorks & ANSYS preferred)
  • Working knowledge of various production processes including injection molding, die-casting, extruding, sheet metal stamping & forming, machining, powder coating and plating
  • High level of integrity, work ethic, responsiveness and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Highly proficient in various Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent knowledge of materials selection & specification, as applied to metal or plastic fabrication, soldering, welding, bonding for vacuum and clean environments
  • Thermal, structural and fluids analysis using Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS preferred)
  • Design tolerance analysis ability and experience
